Healthy characteristics of a sacral chakra that is in balance: joy, pleasure, healthy emotions & sexuality

Negative/out of balance characteristics: over-emotional, destructive, addiction, rigid, emotionally numb, fatigue, worries or obsession about body image, sexuality, foods, or exercise

Physical symptoms of imbalance: any difficulties in the abdominal area such as reproductive organs, kidneys, bladder, as well as immune deficiencies

Crystal: citrine, fire agate, fire opal, carnelian, quartz

Essential oils/incense: cardamom, ylang ylang, orange, cinnamon

What can I do to balance my sacral chakra?

  • Think about the healthy characteristics of this chakra - joy, pleasure, healthy feelings - and consider for each one, what would it look like to embody this characteristic? What step could I take to live this, to feel this?
  • Is there somewhere in your life that you can feel gratitude for these characteristics already - even just a little bit?
  • Treat yourself. It can be something very simple and inexpensive (or free!), but it must be something that truly gives you a deep sense of pleasure. Pay attention to the difference between real pleasure and a short-lived buzz, it's the difference between satisfaction and distraction. The key here is to do something that will feed your soul, not something that will make you feel guilty later.
  • Wear orange.
  • Keep one of the listed crystals near your bed or workspace, or carry one around in your pocket.
  • Bathe with a couple drops of one of these essential oils, or scent the air with some incense.
  • If you are comfortable visualizing, imagine a warm and radiant white light coming down through the top of your head, moving downward to the area behind your eyes, continuing on to your throat, then to the centre of your chest, continuing its flow downward to the area behind your ribcage, then moving on to your belly, filling and brightening up this energy centre, clearing out any blockages.
  • Meditate on the picture with the intent to balance your energy centre. You may wish to place a hand on your belly to help you to focus.
